Responsible gambling in British Columbia
Legal age
You must be 19 or older to gamble or enter a gaming area in British Columbia. Venues check ID.
Gambling is entertainment
Think of money spent at a gaming venue like the cost of a movie or a meal out. It is not a way to make money or to pay off bills or debts. Over time, the odds favour the venue.
Simple habits that help
- Set a budget before you go, and leave your bank card at home.
- Decide how long you'll stay, and take regular breaks.
- Don't chase losses by trying to recover money you've spent.
- Avoid gambling when you're stressed, low or have been drinking.
- Balance gambling with other things you enjoy.
Signs it may be time to talk to someone
- Spending more money or time than you planned.
- Borrowing money, or hiding gambling from people close to you.
- Feeling anxious or irritable when you're not gambling.
- Gambling to escape problems or to feel better.

You can sign up with help from the BC Gambling Support Line or at any venue. Support and counselling are available alongside it.
